Dean Bok Ph.D. is a distinguished research professor of ophthalmology and neurobiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Dean is also a member of the Brain Research Institute of UCLA, and serves as Dolly Green Chair of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute of UCLA. A respected leader in the field of retinal cell biology, Dean and his collaborators have made foundational discoveries including the role of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) phagocytosis of photoreceptor rod outer segments, the visual cycle and other important mechanisms involved in AMD and Stargardt’s disease. Dean has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Helen Keller Prize for Vision Research.
